B.A.S.A. (Bay Area Senior Advocates) shares food pantry listing
Print Version (Microsoft Word Document)
Did you know that there is help in our community for people struggling to pay bills, buy medicine and purchase food? B.A.S.A. has made nutrition a major focus in 2010 and we want to be sure that those in need know about some of the local pantries. Using these pantries will allow you to save on food purchases and be able to use that money for other expenses. All pantries provide food regardless of income. Some have limits on how often you may visit but there is a pantry in each county that can help you stretch that dollar.
In addition, seniors over 60 who qualify with their income could be eligible for the U.S.D.A. Commodity Supplemental Food Program and The Emergency Food Assistance Program held monthly and quarterly. For details and eligibility requirements call 800-632-7334 in Traverse City, 800-443-2297 in Cadillac or 800-443-5518 in Petoskey.
Funding on all the pantries are from donations and grants and none from government. Volunteers are needed at almost all of the pantries and seniors can just call or visit to find out about volunteer activities needed.
In Traverse City, please ask for Val Stone, Community Services Coordinator for further help.
