Senior Volunteer Programs cover the ten counties of Northwest Michigan and has two programs that represent the volunteers. The Foster Grandparent Program has volunteers who serve as role models, mentors, and tutors to children in need. They provide guidance to children at a critical time in their lives. Volunteers serve 15+ hours/week with children who need assistance at schools, Head Start, daycare, YMCA, summer camp and youth organizations. Helping children in your community with reading, writing, language, motor skills and self-esteem by being a consistent weekly mentor.
The Senior Companion Program has volunteers who serve as advocates, supporters and companions to older adults who are frail and isolated. They connect their clients to the community, as well as visit residents in nursing home facilities. Volunteers serve 15+ hours/week assisting isolated and frail seniors. The weekly SC visit assists the seniors to live independently longer in their own home. Transporting and accompanying the seniors to doctor appointments, groceries shopping, completing errands and more.
